2. Our Products
We take reasonable care to ensure that product descriptions, photographs, measurements, colours, finishes and other information displayed on our website are accurate.
Our furniture is made using natural timber and no two pieces of wood are exactly the same.
Natural characteristics may include:
- grain variation
- knots
- colour variation
- mineral marks
- saw marks
- small dents or surface marks
- natural splits or checking
- variations in texture
- differences in how timber absorbs wax or finish
These characteristics are part of the appearance and character of natural rustic timber and do not automatically constitute a defect.
The product you receive may therefore vary slightly from photographs shown on our website.
Screen settings, lighting and photography can also affect the appearance of colours and finishes.
Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights. Products must still be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.
3. Handmade Products
Many Daves Hardwood products are handmade or hand finished.
Small variations may therefore occur between individual products.
These variations are part of the nature of handmade furniture and may include small differences in finish, texture, dimensions and appearance.
We inspect products before dispatch and aim to ensure that every item meets our quality standards.
4. Product Dimensions
Dimensions shown on our website are approximate unless expressly stated otherwise.
Because timber is a natural material and our products are finished by hand, small variations in thickness, depth, width and overall dimensions may occur.
Where a product is ordered in a specific listed length, we will make reasonable efforts to produce the item to that measurement.
Where you provide us with your own measurements for a custom or bespoke order, you are responsible for ensuring that the measurements supplied are correct before production begins.
5. Orders
When you place an order through our website, you are making an offer to purchase the products contained in your order.
You will normally receive an automated order confirmation after placing your order.
We may decline or cancel an order where reasonably necessary, including where:
- a product is unavailable
- payment has not been authorised
- an obvious pricing or listing error has occurred
- we are unable to fulfil a requested specification
- we reasonably suspect fraud or misuse
- delivery to the requested address is not possible
- fulfilling the order would breach applicable law
If we cancel an order after payment has been taken, we will refund the amount paid for the affected product or order.
6. Prices and Payment
All prices shown on our website are in pounds sterling unless otherwise stated.
The amount payable will be shown before you complete checkout.
Any applicable delivery charges will also be shown before the order is completed.
Daves Hardwood is not currently VAT registered. Prices shown on our website should therefore not be interpreted as containing separately charged VAT.
Payment must be successfully authorised before we begin processing your order.
Payments may be processed using Shopify Payments, PayPal or another payment provider made available through our checkout.
7. Made to Order Products
Many Daves Hardwood products are made or finished after an order has been placed.
The estimated production, fulfilment or delivery time shown on the product page or during checkout will apply to your order.
Production times are estimates based on our normal workshop capacity.
We will make reasonable efforts to complete and dispatch orders within the stated timeframe.
Production may occasionally take longer because of circumstances such as:
- unusually high order volumes
- timber or material supply delays
- courier disruption
- equipment failure
- severe weather
- other circumstances outside our reasonable control
Where there is a significant delay, we will make reasonable efforts to keep you informed.
8. Standard Made to Order Products
A product being made after an order is placed does not automatically make it a bespoke or personalised product.
Where you order a standard product using the normal sizes, finishes or options offered on our website, your normal statutory cancellation rights will apply unless a specific legal exception applies.
9. Bespoke, Custom and Personalised Products
Different cancellation rules may apply to products that are genuinely made to your individual specifications or clearly personalised.
Examples may include:
- a shelf made to a specific non standard measurement requested by you
- a product made to a unique specification agreed specifically with you
- a personalised or engraved product
- a product substantially altered from our standard specification at your request
You should carefully check all measurements, specifications and other information before confirming a bespoke order.
Where the law allows, bespoke or personalised products may not be returnable simply because you have changed your mind.
This does not affect your rights if a bespoke product is faulty, damaged, not as described or otherwise fails to meet your statutory rights.
10. Cancellation Rights
For most standard products bought online, consumers have the right to cancel their purchase within the statutory cancellation period.
Where that right applies, you normally have 14 days from the day after receiving the goods to tell us that you wish to cancel.
You should contact us at:
Please include your order number.
Further information about cancellations, returns and refunds is provided in our Refund Policy.
11. Delivery
Available delivery services, estimated delivery times and any delivery charges will be shown during checkout.
Our products are often made to order, so the delivery period shown when you place your order may include both:
- production time
- courier transit time
Where a delivery period longer than the usual statutory default has been clearly agreed as part of your order, that agreed delivery period will apply.
Please ensure that the delivery address entered during checkout is complete and accurate.
We are not responsible for delays caused by incorrect or incomplete delivery information provided by the customer.
12. Courier Delivery
We use third party delivery companies to deliver our products.
Once an order has been dispatched, you may receive tracking information directly from us or the courier.
Courier delivery dates and time slots are generally estimates and may occasionally change due to circumstances outside our control.
Where you are purchasing as a consumer, responsibility for the goods generally remains with us until they are delivered to you or to another person you have identified to receive them.
13. Missed Deliveries
Where required, you are responsible for ensuring that somebody is available to receive your delivery.
For larger or longer products, please ensure there is suitable access to the delivery address.
If delivery repeatedly fails because:
- nobody is available
- an incorrect address was supplied
- access is not possible
- the parcel is refused without valid reason
and the goods are returned to us, we may charge reasonable redelivery costs where legally permitted.
14. Inspecting Your Order
Please inspect your order as soon as reasonably possible after delivery.
If your order appears damaged, incomplete or incorrect, please contact us promptly.
Where possible, please provide:
- your order number
- a description of the problem
- photographs of the product
- photographs of any damage
- photographs of the packaging where courier damage is suspected
Providing photographs helps us investigate the issue with the courier and resolve problems more quickly.
Delaying notification does not automatically remove any statutory rights you may have.
15. Faulty, Damaged or Incorrect Goods
Your statutory consumer rights apply to all products purchased from us.
Goods must be:
- of satisfactory quality
- fit for their normal purpose
- as described
If a product does not meet these requirements, you may be entitled to remedies including repair, replacement, price reduction or refund depending on the circumstances and applicable law.
Our policies relating to natural timber variation do not remove your statutory rights.
16. Natural Timber Characteristics
Wood is a natural material.
Variations in grain, knots, colour, texture and character are normal.
Rustic timber may also feature characteristics such as:
- saw marks
- small dents
- historical marks
- natural checking
- minor splits
- colour differences
- knots
- surface variation
These characteristics are part of the intended rustic appearance of our products.
However, describing a product as rustic does not allow us to disregard genuine faults or supply goods that fail to meet the standards required by consumer law.
17. Colour and Finish Variations
Our colour swatches, samples and photographs are intended to provide a reasonable guide to each finish.
Because every piece of timber differs naturally, the same finish may appear lighter, darker or slightly different on different boards.
Factors including timber grain, timber density and natural colouring can affect the final appearance.
We therefore cannot guarantee that every piece of timber will have an identical colour or grain pattern.
18. Returns for Change of Mind
Where your statutory cancellation right applies, you should notify us within the applicable cancellation period.
After cancelling, you must return the goods within the period required by law.
Unless otherwise agreed or required by law, you will normally be responsible for the direct cost of returning goods where you have simply changed your mind.
Some of our products are large, heavy or unusually long. Return delivery costs may therefore be significantly higher than normal parcel postage.
Goods should be returned with reasonable care.
Where permitted by law, we may make an appropriate deduction if goods have been handled beyond what would reasonably be necessary to inspect their nature, characteristics and functioning.
Please refer to our Refund Policy for full details.
19. Refunds
Where you are entitled to a refund, it will normally be returned using the original payment method unless otherwise agreed.
Refund processing times can vary depending on your bank or payment provider.
Our Refund Policy contains further information regarding refunds, returns and cancellations.
20. Brackets and Fixings
Where the product description states that brackets, screws, wall plugs or other fixings are included, these will be supplied with the product.
Different types of wall require different types of fixings.
Fixings supplied with our products may not be suitable for every wall construction.
Wall types may include:
- brick
- concrete
- blockwork
- plasterboard
- hollow walls
- timber stud walls
- other specialist wall constructions
You are responsible for ensuring that the fixings used are appropriate for your wall.
If you are unsure, we recommend seeking advice from a suitably competent tradesperson before installation.
21. Installation
Customers are responsible for ensuring products are installed safely and correctly.
Before drilling into any wall, reasonable precautions should be taken to identify hidden:
- electrical cables
- pipes
- plumbing
- other services
Where you are uncertain about installation, wall construction or suitable fixings, we recommend using a competent installer.
22. Shelf Loading
The safe load of a wall mounted shelf depends on several factors outside our direct control, including:
- wall construction
- fixings used
- bracket positioning
- installation quality
- shelf length
- number of brackets
- distribution of weight
Unless we have expressly stated a tested maximum load for a particular product and installation method, we do not guarantee a specific maximum weight capacity.
Customers should use suitable fixings and reasonable judgement for the intended use.
23. Wood Care
Natural timber can react to sunlight, moisture, humidity and heat.
To help protect your furniture:
- wipe spills promptly
- avoid prolonged exposure to water
- avoid harsh or unsuitable cleaning chemicals
- avoid positioning timber immediately next to intense heat sources
- use appropriate timber care products where necessary
Natural timber may gradually change colour over time. This is normal.
Additional care information may be supplied with your order or made available on our website.
24. Custom Orders
We are happy to consider custom sizes and specifications.
A custom request is not accepted until we have confirmed that we can produce it and agreed the specification and price with you.
Where applicable, we may ask you to confirm measurements or specifications in writing before production begins.
You are responsible for checking the information you provide.
25. Promotions and Discount Codes
Promotional offers and discount codes may be subject to additional conditions.
Unless otherwise stated:
- discount codes cannot be exchanged for cash
- promotions may have an expiry date
- only eligible products may qualify
- discount codes may not be applied retrospectively
- we may withdraw a promotion before an order is placed
Any specific terms displayed with a promotion will also apply.
26. Website Information and Errors
We make reasonable efforts to keep information on our website accurate.
Occasionally there may be:
- typographical errors
- incorrect pricing
- incorrect availability
- incorrect measurements
- outdated information
- technical errors
We reserve the right to correct genuine errors.
Where an obvious error materially affects an order that has already been placed, we will contact you as soon as reasonably possible.

Examples may include:
- severe weather
- courier disruption
- transport disruption
- industrial action
- supplier delays
- shortages of materials
- fire

If such circumstances materially affect your order, we will take reasonable steps to minimise their effect and keep you informed where appropriate.
